Four decades behind the sewing machine
States Canvas opened in Detroit in 1980 as a sewing contract shop — cutting and stitching heavy canvas for awnings, tarps and covers when most of the industry was already outsourcing. Word spread that we could fix what others said had to be replaced. Four decades later, the machines are still running and the work is still done in-house.
We never chased the cheapest fabric or the fastest job. We build awnings the way they used to be built — measured by hand, sewn with marine-grade thread, and installed by people whose name is on the label.
